We left friday night after work and made it at about 11 just in time to catch Bjork's set. She is amazing, and her voice sounded great. Her dj had this futuristic touch-screen table that i cant even explain, but it was surreal.
We ended up crashing with my buddy in LA Chris and his friends from college house that they rented. Thankfully everyone was super cool, and we spent our night taking jello shots and catching humongous moth's in a cup.
Saturday we woke up and got to Coachella at about 2. Here are the bands i saw
The Fratellis- pretty good
Regina Spektor- really good, not good looing (disappointment)
MSTRKRFT- decent
Peter, Bjorn, and John- booooooooooooooring
Kings of Leon- great. lived up to high expectations
Arcade Fire- was worried they would sound good at a large venue, but were magnificent
Girl Talk- Probably my favorite moment of the weekend. Sewards and i lost each other after Kings of Leon, and i spent the rest of the night by myself. I went over to see Girl Talk, and he had all these hot chicks on stage dancing around, and he was in the back sometimes showing up on the video monitor. Everyone was dacning like crazy as he mixed tracks like whoomp there it is, tincy dancer, aint nothing but a gangsta party, and other assorted hits. He said he only had two minutes left at one point, and about 10 mins later you could see security on stage physically removing him from his dj equipment.
me at Girl Talk
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Pretty good, seen the twice before, but they closed with "under the bridge" whic hi dont think i have seen them do before
The Good, The Bad The Queen- They played their cd from first to last song in order. Was really good.
I also during the day got to meet up with some good high school friends, one of them i had not seen in four years.
Sunday
Explosions in the Sky- Great band, but bad for the main stage, didn't sound that great
Rodrigo y Gabriella- They played "wish you were here" with the crowd singing all the words, very cool
The Roots- Called the tuba player "Tuba Gooding Jr."
Willie Nelson- Boring
Cut Chemist- DJ from Jurassic 5. Did this thing where he interviewed 3 people on a camera, then projected everything he had just taped onto a screen, and made it into a song on the spot, mixing it. Here's a video i took of it
Lily Allen- Sounded good
Crowded House, Manu Chao- I was kinda sorta paying attention, more hanging out in VIP area
Rage Against the Machine- 100,000 people jumping together to Rage songs was amazing. People went fucking nuts, and i have never felt energy like that.
After Rage Against the Machine i drove back to LA, making it home at about 2:30am. it was a fun trip.
Random Tidbits
- I saw a wasted Tara Reid walking around in the VIP area. She had really saggy boobs and did not look hot
- Rod Stewart's sun was walking around looking very douchey (sons of hollywood show)
- My buddy MJ saw Paris Hilton ordering a beer next to him, and she had her mirrow out checking herself while ordering alcohol
- This scene kid had to stop dancing every few minutes so he could fix his hair so it would be over on of his eyes
- this baby....i felt for bad for her/him/it
