Music Year In Review

As the year comes to close, i thought i would share 10 CD's/Artists i feel everyone should check out. So listen up cause these are some acts you should be checking out if you aren't already.

1. Matisyahu - Live at Stubbs
A hisidic jew reggae/rap artist. His voice really shows through on many tracks, and while their are jewish references in many songs, it can easily be looked past for the great music that is being created. Check out "Refuge", "Close My Eyes", and "King Without A Crown". Great chill out music for sure

2. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
I came across Postal Service first, like many others did, and eventually elapsed into Death Cab. If your into Radiohead, Postal Service, Sigur Ros, or even Coldplay check it out. Ben Gibbard has a very soothing voice that shows through on such tracks as "Soul Meets Body", "Summer Skin", and "I Will Follow You Into The Dark". I also recommend checking out Dntel if you are really into this stuff, since its by Jimmy Tamborello who creates the electronics for Death Cab

3. Van Morrison - Magic Time
While obviously, Van Morrison is not a new artist, his new record "Magic Time" is a true work of art. His voices only seems to get better with age, and is becoming increasingly powerful. Great tracks include "Magic Time" and "Stranded" which really show that Van Morrison still has a lot of records left to make.

4. The Arcade Fire - Funeral
While this band's last release was over a year ago, i feel that i can still add it to this list, since it is only starting to gain any notoriety. The Arcade Fire are a Montreal based band that have powerful lyrics, and great guitar riff's to back it up. If you enjoy The Killers or The Strokes, check it out

5. Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Another chill CD, I know I know, Jack Johnson is not exactly everyone's favorite. A lot of his stuff starts to sound the same, but this CD is the best of it. "Banana Pancakes" is my favorite, and is perfect for a lazy sunday listening.

6. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
What i first thought when i heard this was that it was straight out of an episode of "The O.C". But after listening to it a couple times, i realized that i really like it. The guys voice takes a little getting used to, but the music is catchy as hell. Check out "Over and Over Again (Lost and Found)" as well as "Details Of The War".

7. John Legend - Get Lifted
I really like this CD. Old school motown vibes, with many guest vocalists. "Stay With You" is my personal favorite, and is another good chill down CD. Great for pretending that you are in touch with your sensitive side.

8. Damian Marley - Welcome to Jamrock
While the title song "Welcome to Jamrock" has been played out on the radio, there are many other better tracks on the record. If you like rap, take a listen to "Road to Zion" featuring Nas, and if you are an avid reggae fan, listen to "Khaki Suit" featuring Eek-A-Mouse.

9. The Darkness - One Way Ticket To Hell...and Back
I don't know about you, but i love butt rock. And the only good butt rock being made is The Darkness. I doubt they would enjoy me calling it butt rock, but that's what i like to call it. "Is It Just Me" has a great chorus, and is an awesome drunk song. If you were a fan of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", give this one a listen to and i'm sure you will like it.

10. Spoon - Gimmie Fiction
A great album by a band that does not get enough credit. All the songs are great, and i love lead singer Britt Daniel's voice. The duo have a great chemistry, and is worth a listen if you enjoy bands like Modest Mouse

I'm sure i left off a lot of other bands, but give these a listen to, and expand you mind past the Kelly Clarkson and Ashlee simpson CD's for once.

Blackout

Ahhhh recollection. Those drunken nights when you don't remember any of the events from the night. The joy of pasting the night back together from your friends, call log, and text messages can make the night in retrospect seem even more exciting. This last saturday was one i wish i could have remembered. Tim, Frodo, and I went to Seabirds and SAE, and as i stumbled around i guess the following things happened:

1. Some chicks were trying to work the bar at Seabirds, and it took them too long to get me a beer, so i promptly called them Coyote Ugly rejects.

2. I sent a text message to Tim in my phone saying "Tim is cock blocking me........Standard" ummm yea so about that bro, guess i sent it to the wrong person.

3. Obviously multiple accounts of me referring to myself in the third person (I'm fucking Bones).

4. I guess i got home somehow, and proceeded to wake Brex up, smack him in the face, and then slap him on his back as hard as i could.

String Cheese

I realized that im getting old finally....I dont string my cheese anymore....thats really the first sign. I dont have the time to slow down and string my cheese anymore. Thats a little pleasure of life that ive already forgotten. How sad is that? When i was younger i would peel away the thinest slices i could and eat them, but now i just gobble down the whole thing. Its so sad actually, knowing that i can no longer indulge in with of the things i loved so much as a child. But now I just go for the jugular of the cheese like a hungry cheetah. Yelling “fuck string cheese, I gotta eat this shit before the apprentice starts”. Oh well, at least I still wet the bed.

Ever been this guy?

Has this ever happened to you before? Your talking to a group of hot chicks, and everything is going great or whatever, shes telling you about how the cherries on her Louis Vuitton bag are the hottest thing ever, and your shaking your head, looking interested or whatever, when a couple more friends comeover. Whatever theirs enough of you to go around, so you step away for a few seconds while she says hi and your talking to your boys like your about to hit a walk off grand slam in the world series when she calls your name, you turn around, and she slams a fucking disposable camera in your face and asks you to take a picture?

Fuck that. And it has her fucking name written on the bottom with a blue sharpie, so when she passes out off of to many shots or bartons vodka and tampico someone will hopefully remember who megan or melissa or some other "m" name 600 girls have is. Anyway point being, being the camera guy sucks. Theirs always this awkward moment when you try to be funny and take a picture of yourself or only count to like one and then take the picture. But you could have counted to like 40 and the girls still arent ready on the first shot. And when theyre finally ready and you take the picture all of them run over like im holding the cure to aids. And of course they all look at the picture, and one of their eyes is closed, looking away, or dont look pretty. One of them always has to look fat in proportion to the others, and one thinks she needs to look more tan, so you have to take another one. Fuck that. Anyway point being, never ask me to take a picture of you and your friends, because its annoying as hell.

Charger Game - 9/11

This past sunday Seabird and I took a trip to Qualcomm to see the Chargers play the Cowboys. They lost, those bastards, but we got super wasted in the process, and took vodka shots when we got back. I guess we kept trying to remember "To sleeping triple, seeing double, and being single" but we couldnt get it right, and had to take a shot every time we got kinda close. Things get blurry after that, but I guess I made out with Tim's lion and told him if he was lucky it would be him someday. Some people say i'm a weekend alcoholic, i call it a weekend fling with a close friend
